I have decided to start looking for a new job. *insert whimper here*

I really do like the job I have, I like the college I work for and I plan to work in education for probably the rest of my life. Unfortunately, working in education is a pain in the ass. Ever year tuition goes up, financial aid is cut, students stop coming, budgets get cut, and I end up getting screwed. Thankfully, I work at a really small campus that is almost perfectly staffed with people trained to do 14 job functions in addition to their own. This year we have to cut 1% of our budget, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it is. Now we won't have any extra hours for peak registration which means students are going to be waiting for HOURS to see an advisor, and they are going to be PISSED. Not to mention I have always counted on having those extra hours three times a year. Typically during peak registration I get to work 10-15 hours more than I normally do, which is almost full time. It makes it so we can keep our apartment a refreshingly cold 74 degrees when it's 108 degrees outside. Well now we are moving into a house, that is twice as big as our apartment and I'm not going to have any extra hours this summer. I'm going to be sweaty and in as bad of a mood as my students.

So the job search has begun. I am fortunate enough to live in a city with a handful of colleges and universities around, but it's not like there are hundreds of academic advising job openings available. There are 4 full time job openings right now that I am qualified for and I have applied to 3 of them. The one I didn't apply for is farther than I want to drive, in a sketchy part of town, and is a grant funded position, which means it could disappear whenever, I want something a little less scary and a little more secure.

I am keeping my fingers crossed and trusting God and his plan. It may be a plan I can't see and have no idea how it's going to work out, and I just might be freaking out wondering how we are going to make everything work with a house that is going to need a new AC unit soon and our lease on the Jetta running out next year and having to buy a new car and wanting to replace the kitchen... it's overwhelming. God can work miracles and I am praying for one right about now.
