Decorating for Christmas 2022

Decorating for Christmas 2022

I love Christmas deocations. If I could live in Whoville, I’d move there right now. This year we are living with my parents, so we helped them decorate their house. First things first, a festive beverage in a festive mug. My parent’s house has 10’ ceilings, so at 9’ tall this is the biggest tree I’ve ever helped decorate.

The tree is prelit, but obviously it doesn’t have enough lights straight from the box. Plus, my mom likes lights in different sizes and shapes on her trees. My mom doesn’t like other people putting lights on the tree, because none of us do it how she wants it, but this year finding lights she liked was a difficult process, and she let Christopher put the lights on the tree. It was shocking, but also he’s good at it and always does the lights for our tree. To be clear on this subject, I have never put lights on a Christmas tree in my life. First my mother wouldn’t let me, now my husband won’t let me…. rude. Ok, I’m sure they’d let me if I asked really sincerly, but I’m good just drinking my festive beverage and watching. 10/10 recommend getting someone in your life that is picky about how lights go on a tree so you never have to worry about it. Then we all helped (ok mostly Christopher, my mom, and brother) put the ornaments on the tree.

My parent’s wanted a new style of tree topper, so mom and I went to the craft store for supplies. We made came up with this poinsettia and gold berry stem arrangement, and I think it’s really fun.

Other inside decorations include, mini trees in most rooms, woodland creatures, garland with lights, bows, and stockings on the stairs, inside wreaths, and more! We take Christmas decor very seriously.

Outside, my parents added lit garland and ornaments to the porch rail, wreaths on the door and windows, a large Merry Christmas sign, and a lit joy yard sign. It’s basically one of the most decorated houses on the street. Most of the houses on their street just have wreaths and candles in the windows, which is like nice and whatever, but I need 1000% more lights than that in my life. My parents are in the middle of construction, so hopefully next year I can convince them to add even more lights to their display. (Insert evil sounding, but festive, laugh here)

Even though we don’t have a ton of room for decorations, we wanted to make sure our space was festive too. We decorated a table top tree for our bedroom, displayed our advent calendars, and plugged in the new Christmas tree night lights I got as an early Christmas present in our bathroom. It’s not a lot, but it’s still nice to have a little holiday cheer when we are getting ready for bed or when we wake up.

I decided my brother needed Christmas lights on his house. I convinced him pick some out, I went and got them, and then invited myself over to help him put them up. As usual, “help” is an overstatement.

I hope that no matter what you celebrate this season, your decorations make Clark Griswold proud.
