Things I've Owned Forever
I’ve seen a handful of videos on TikTok about things people have owned for a long time, and I figured I’d share some things I’ve owned for 10+ years that have stood the test of time.
Let’s start in the kitchen.
I’ve had my precious KitchenAid Mixer since my sophomore year of college (2005). Christopher and I got it on Black Friday that year. I know people with their grand and great-grandparent’s kitchen aids, so this bad boy is in if for the long haul.
Williams-Sonoma kitchen towels are just built different. I love them and use them almost exclusively. Occasionally, a tea towel will be funny enough that I need to have it, but other than that, it’s WS all the way for me.
These All-Clad pots and pans were a wedding gift back in 2009, and other than needing a little bar keeper’s friend, they might as well be new.
Another wedding gift, this Wustoff knife is a champ. Sharpens well, and slices so nicely. It’s comfortable in my hand and still just as good 16 years later.
We love our all white set of Crate and Barrel Plates and Bowls. It’s easy to mix with other tableware and decorations, no matter the season.
We have had the rimmed dinner and salad plates, and cereal bowls since we got married in 2009. We also have some cloth napkins from Crate and Barrel that we really like and have held up very well.
Tervis Tumblers were the OG must-have cup back in the day, and I still have some. I love how cute they are.
Not in the kitchen, but just as close to my heart, My Car.
I drive a 2010 VW, Salsa Red, Jetta.
I love my car so much. When it eventually (a long time from now) dies, I will be devastated. I like it so much that the thought of a new car doesn’t even really excite me. If I could add air-conditioned seats, she’d be perfection.
Our workhorse of a Dining Room Table.
Our table was a hand-me-down from a family I babysat for in college and it’s still rockin’. I’m not sure how long they had it before us, but we’ve had it since, I think, 2009.
Hand-built Dining Room Buffet.
In 2013, my brother and Christopher built us a Restoration Hardware knock-off buffet for our dining room, and I helped like twice.
You can have fancy, solid wood, designer-inspired furniture at a reasonable cost as long as you know some people who are hella handy. It also doesn’t hurt if one of them works at a wood store.
Anyway, these are just some of the things we bought/got/made that have lasted a long time. I absolutely subscribe to the idea of buying quality items once when you can, instead of something that’ll get you by until you have to replace it over and over. I know it’s getting harder to do, but if you’re in the market for anything on this list, consider these my over-the-top, glowy recommendations as a user of 10+ years.
