My Second Mammogram + Ultrasound

My Second Mammogram + Ultrasound

Weeellllll, my mammogram came back abnormal. FUN. One spot in each boob that they needed a better look at. So that meant I was back in the saddle for round two in less than a week. This time, a mammogram and ultrasound.

I had a gown that I was swimming in this time, but I appreciated it because I did have to wait in a waiting room between my mammogram and ultrasound wearing it. So it's better not to have the girls just peeking out of a gown that was too small.

This time the mammogram was fewer positions, but way more compression, and I almost cried because it was so overwhelming. It was much more uncomfortable. This time the skin under both of my boobs tore. So that sucked. Still quick, though.

After the mammogram I waited in a waiting room while the doctor looked at the images to determine which images they needed from the ultrasound (I think). Then it was time to get slimed up.

The ultrasound is so much more relaxed. The tech had music playing and was very soothing while she rubbed her wand around to get all the images they needed. I tried not to watch the screen too much, because it just kind of looks like a collection of spider webs, so what was the point? The gel did hurt a little on my torn skin, but other than that, the ultrasound was painless and not even a little bit uncomfortable.

The doctor looked at the images again and determined they want to do a follow-up ultrasound on one boob in 6 months, and a biopsy on the other. So now I wait to get scheduled with the breast surgeon.

It’s definitely scary to potentially have something wrong with my breasts. But still, if you haven’t had your mammogram, go fucking get it done.
