Our Home Renovation: Progress

Our Home Renovation: Progress

Apparently sharing pictures of our home renovation is going to take longer than the actual renovation. Oops. If you haven’t already, you can read about our Before Here and Demo Day Here.

Today I’m going to share some progress pictures and the end of the professional work. We are still looking for a few finishing touches 2 months later, so hopefully we will get things finished up sometime soon so I can share official “after” pictures. Also if you know of a good place to get wood framed mirrors, let me know.

After demo day, seeing the kitchen plans taped to the wall was way more exciting than I thought it would be. Just seeing those little pictures and the pencil marks where everything was going to go made it even more real. They added a new power outlet and water line for our fridge, because we moved it to a new spot in the kitchen.

The tile days completely transformed the nothing into real rooms. Having all the same light color flooring in the whole front third of the house makes everything so much brighter and it feels so much nicer and homier than the patchwork of floors we had before.

The professionals finished the cabinets and shower tile the same day, so this was a fancy feeling day. The day that we were like Ohhhh snap, this is like what our house looks like now. Not just the pictures and computer generated models.

Then some of the finishing touches were installed, like our kitchen backsplash, the range, a new bathroom light figure, and a new bathroom sink. Again, know of a good mirror store… I still don’t have one.

Chris installed a new light in the dining room and some led strip lights in our pantry, which was dark before this. Plus he put a switch in the pantry so the lights come on when you open the door and turn off when you close it. It’s like magic.

Things we are still working on:

  • getting the kitchen organized and then remembering where everything is.

  • organizing the pantry, I just stuffed things in bins and put them on the shelves

  • the laundry room has a new light, but needs a rug and we want to replace the cabinets in there, but IKEA is out of the set I want

  • we got some rugs, literally last night for the foyer, bedroom hallway, and to go in front of the patio doors. but still need one for the kitchen, I want a Ruggable in there, and I’d like one for the dining room.

  • I still need a bathroom mirror

  • we want to replace the blinds in the kitchen and bathroom with top down/bottom up cellular shades, so we can have the top open to let in light and also run around naked.

  • picking out a new couch

  • getting a new bookcase

  • some kind of alcohol storage

  • game storage

It’s been a long process (even though the professionals were only here for like 3.5 weeks, they finished a week early), mostly because I am picky, I don’t want to go to stores when I don’t need to, because Covid, and the options are overwhelming. As we get individual spaces finished I will share those, becasue some are closer than others.

Thanks for coming along on this journey with us. It’s so nice to have our home feel even more like ours.
